[Not starting a business in today’s world is INSANITY and actually very irresponsible. You have an ability (at least one), you have access to knowledge, you have probably better access to resources than you realize and you have a level playing field. What you no longer have is an EXCUSE.]
About 15 years ago entrepreneurship was a new word budding on the horizon for the average person’s vocabulary. Today, it literally has become the one skill I don’t believe any of us will make it without in the very near future. I’m not sure if I attribute this to the most present situations around us or the greater exposure to knowledge and a sense of responsibility to cultivate the knowledge so freely accessible. Regardless to what it is – I’m glad the era is upon us and I pray all of us rise to the occasion.
In 2001, ALLAH blessed me to be drawn to the self-help arena and exposed me early on to entrepreneurship. I’ve always been steady in my approach to life and only made choices I was comfortable with because I had the back drop knowledge and lifeline of entrepreneurship keenly in the forefront of my mind. I’ve always been very aware that ALLAH equipped me with the ability to produce from within myself and therefore have never been afraid of any ‘outside’ force being a determinant factor in my quality of life. I have skills, I just have to make myself develop and use them. Though, I have not always been as diligent and persistent in the latter part as I could have been over the years, I can assure you that the knowledge of my ability to create income at any moment I choose has been sufficient. The awareness of this ability actually puts me ahead in the game of life over many individuals. Many of the people I encounter have yet to come to the realization that, while ALLAH didn’t cookie cut-create any of us, there are similar traits we all have. One is the ability to develop something innate into an income producing opportunity that will sustain our basic needs in life. ALLAH is a Creator whose creation has purpose and ability – many of us just don’t take the time to search for and discover it. You and I were never meant to be completely at the mercy of any of ALLAH’s other creation, but because we fail to search for and develop the possibilities (abilities, that is) that He’s equipped us with, often times we do find ourselves at the mercy of our environment. That’s our own fault.
With the agonizing doom and gloom hanging on the socioeconomic horizon today, now more than ever, I believe, is the very best time to begin to discover your abilities and skills and couple those with passion, experiences and resources to turn them into unique income opportunities for yourself. Money is the root of all evil, as the saying goes, but how well all of us have come to learn that it, too, is our bridge over troubled water. You have to learn how to create it from yourself FOR yourself. Job security and the era of ‘government favor’ is done. Now more than ever the words of Elijah Muhammad, “do for self or suffer the consequences”, are not only a notion to the wise, but a must for any and everyone one.

[“starting a business is just like having baby.” ]
A popular saying about business goes…”starting a business is just like having a baby. You’ll never have exactly enough money or ever will the time be exactly right. You just have to have the baby and take care of it” – Anonymous.
I would dare encourage you that the innate ability ALLAH has blessed you with is as precious as a baby that He would create in your womb. Both are precious gifts from Him and it is our responsibility to nurture and develop them. The holy Qur’an reminds us in Surah 18: 7 ‘Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it in that We may test them [as to] which of them are best in deed.’ Everything you are and have the ability to do is to be completely used up during your life’s journey. Nothing ALLAH made you physically able to do here on earth will be of any good to you after your gone – except the good DEEDS it was able to produce on your behalf in your lifetime. Entrepreneurship is a doorway to expending your ability and bartering for what you’d like to hear after you are gone….”Well done my good and faithful servant.” Isn’t it funny how that works – the universal principle of business is in effect even here. Using what you have, leveraging it with risk, to acquire what you want or need.
